GFW Womenswear Winner

The award for best Womenswear collection goes to Northbrook student Rhea Fields. Rhea was inspired by silhouettes from men’s tailoring and mixed it with feminine fabrics for an altogether androgynous look.

With subtle shades of peach and beige, and added effect from sequins and polka dots, the collection shows an innovative approach to tailoring. A slick sophisticated look from Fields who said she had ‘never expected to get in, let alone to win anything’ .

It has been announced that Daisy Lowe is expecting a brand new baby sister to arrive towards the end of the year! Pearle Lowe is pregnant with what will be her fifth child!! It is the fourth for Pearl (41) and her husband Danny Goffey (drummer from Supergrass).

Daisy is said to be over the moon! “I’m sure a lot of people will think Danny and I have gone mad,” Lowe told Hello. “Five kids – it is a bit mental. But Danny and I are over the moon. Daisy just screamed! She was thrilled. She just loves being a sister and to hear that she was going to have another sibling was the best news ever.”

Would you pay to intern at Vogue?

8 Apr

The Cut have just reported that fashion companies are to start auctioning off internships to raise money for Charity! “allowing those with money to breeze in and experience what it’s probably not at all like to intern there” The bidding starts at $1000, but is expected to go a lot lot higher! Although It is a good cause, assumably, I can’t say i agree with it…It’s a pretty invaulauble experience to have someone to pay for!?

During their Week internship at Vogue they will meet Anna Wintour, be shown around the office, and then the rest will determine on his or her interests! I tell you what I would be interested in….Getting my moneys worth looking through the sample cupboard!!!!!

If any rich old soul would like to pay for me to intern at Vogue, I have no Qualms with that!

Paloma Faith

31 Mar

I’ve been a big fan of Paloma Faith for a while now! So bought some tickets for her tour last year, finally went to see her last night at Shepherds Bush Empire and couldn’t have anticipated how incredible of a live performer she would be. In fact in the company of her incredible band they did a better job live than any recording has done!!!

Probably the main reason i’m fascinated with her is her crazy fashion sense. She’s an ex Magicians assistant…Her first outfit was an amazing purple lycra flamenco style jumpsuit, with frills all over the shoulders and down the sides. That’s not the half of it, a sequin/jewell emblazoned FRUIT turban. Oh and Glittery emerald green 6 inch heels!
The second outfit was a floor length backless glittery silver gown, she ran across the stage in doing covers to Billie Holiday. And then a pink mac with sequin cape to perform Etta James’ at last and the encore! Unfortunately iphone minus flash equals to poor photography so enjoy these pictures from the Monday night.

Marios Schwab AW10/ 11

22 Mar

Marios Schwab is certainly under the spotlight at the moment. Becoming creative director for Halston means he had a debut to prepare for New york fashion week and a show for his own label at London fashion week just a week apart. For this collection Schwab seemed to go back to his Austrian roots. with traditional tailoring of simple and sharp shapes and silhouettes. Schwab seemed to dull down on layering and quirky prints to make way for crisp white shirts, delicate embroideries, fur jacket and cropped boleros. Which truly made a demure and lady like collection.

Velvet and brocade dresses hint at his Austrian background. Inspired by techniques he was taught whilst learning the trade at the age of 15. they bring out a luxurious feel to the collection which has been Influenced by “English roses and vanitas.”

Corsets and embellishments roused the simplicity of the collection. Concentrating on a more structured and tailored look. with focus on an exposed leg most of the detail was kept above the waist. Most noticeable to me were the unusual curved bolero jackets, which Marios refers to as ‘Alien Necklines’ and ‘L’ shaped collars on thick fur coats. Within a Colour palette of dove greys, mink, petrol blue and ruby red Schwab is bang on trend for Autumn/Winter.

Alice in Wonderland

17 Mar

Alice in Wonderland is a story of which most will be familiar, especially the cartoon version! With the intent of doing a blog post about The 2010 version of the film and the dresses Alice possesses I came accross this very very old film clip from 1903.  The first ever film version of the Lewis Carroll Classic!!! Made 37 years after the book. So now this post has turned into Alice through the ages…well the dress of course.

The first thing i noticed is that Alice clearly has dark hair in the old version. You just know the dress is blue though!!! Especially as the most iconic vision of Alice is indeed the cartoon version, blonde hair, blue dress, prim and proper English rose…

I know you will have all seen the 1951 animated version…if not WHY not…but this is one of the best bits! Featuring a very similar dress, in a shorter sleeve, and colour of course! Which Alice wears throughout the film. Not in the new one of course…. no no no, Alice consistently dressed in very Marchesa looking dresses catering for her ever changing size! Its worth seeing purely for the costume. Including a full set of armour to slay a Jabberwocky….don’t ask, just watch, and ponder….Why is a raven, like a writing desk?
